Nighttime frequently represents one of the most stressful periods for hospitalized animals due to reduced human presence, increased isolation, environmental changes, and unfamiliar sounds. This protocol recommends maintaining a calm, stable, and predictable environment during overnight hospitalization by minimizing unnecessary handling and reducing sudden or repetitive stimuli. Suggested measures include dim lighting, limiting loud conversations in hospitalization areas, and postponing non-essential procedures whenever the patient’s clinical condition allows. Special attention should also be given to highly anxious or vulnerable patients, monitoring for signs of prolonged stress, vocalization, agitation, or emotional distress during nighttime hours. The objective is to support more physiological rest periods and reduce the emotional burden associated with overnight hospitalization.
