Ultrasound Without Traumatic Restraint

Ultrasound Without Traumatic Restraint

Ultrasound is considered a minimally invasive diagnostic tool; however, it can still become a stressful experience when animals are subjected to prolonged or forceful restraint. This protocol promotes performing ultrasound examinations in natural and comfortable positions whenever clinically possible, minimizing excessive restraint and encouraging calm, cooperative handling.

Simple adaptations such as conducting part of the examination on the floor, using comfortable bedding, or allowing the owner’s presence during the procedure may significantly improve patient tolerance and emotional stability. The protocol also recommends minimizing unnecessary handling and reducing procedure duration whenever possible. The objective is to transform ultrasound examinations into a less emotionally invasive experience while improving patient cooperation and overall welfare during the diagnostic process.
