Welfare of the Pregnant Mother

Welfare of the Pregnant Mother

Pregnancy is a period of significant physical and emotional demand for many breeding females, which makes maternal welfare an absolute priority throughout the entire process. This protocol promotes comprehensive care for pregnant females, prioritizing not only veterinary and health monitoring, but also emotional stability, environmental comfort, and daily quality of life.

Key recommendations include avoiding sudden changes in environment or routine during pregnancy, maintaining appropriate levels of adapted exercise, and providing calm resting areas where the female can withdraw from excessive stimulation when needed. Continuous observation of behavioral changes, anxiety levels, and signs of sustained stress is also encouraged, recognizing that the emotional condition of the mother may directly influence neonatal development and the welfare of the litter.

Unnecessary exposure to loud environments, excessive handling, transport, or social tension with other animals should be minimized, particularly during the final stages of pregnancy. The objective is to support a stable and physiologically healthy gestational experience in which the mother maintains a high quality of life throughout the reproductive process.
