Social Interaction

Social Interaction

Appropriate social interaction is a fundamental need for many animal species and plays an important role in the emotional welfare of breeding animals. This protocol recommends promoting balanced social interactions compatible with the individual characteristics of each animal, avoiding both prolonged isolation and stressful or inappropriate social coexistence.

Key recommendations include allowing regular contact with people and other animals when beneficial for the species and individual, while observing signs of social stress, conflict, avoidance, or emotional isolation. Rest and privacy periods should also be respected, especially during sensitive stages such as pregnancy, birth, nursing, or postpartum recovery.

The protocol encourages professionals to evaluate emotional welfare within the animal’s daily social dynamics, not only during specific reproductive processes. The objective is to support more emotionally stable individuals and reduce behavioral problems derived from insufficient interaction or social overstimulation.
