Environmental Enrichment Programs

Environmental Enrichment Programs

A stay in a canine boarding facility should not be limited to basic housing and supervision. This protocol promotes the incorporation of environmental enrichment strategies designed to reduce boredom, frustration, and emotional deterioration associated with time away from home.

Key recommendations include providing olfactory exploration activities, interactive toys, controlled environmental variety, and play opportunities adapted to each dog’s behavioral profile. Physical activity and mental stimulation should be balanced carefully, avoiding both inactivity and continuous overstimulation.

Enrichment should be adapted to age, energy level, sociability, sensitivity, health status, and individual preferences, recognizing that not all dogs enjoy the same types of interaction or activity. The objective is to create a more balanced, stimulating, and emotionally healthy boarding experience.
